Summer School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners at the University of Gdansk

Summer course of Polish language in Tricity gives an excellent opportunity to combine studying with leisure by the sea and exploring history and culture of Gdansk and its surroundings. 

We offer top quality three-week courses in August - 4 hours (45 min.) per day, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). The courses will be held at every language level – from survival Polish for beginners to courses for those who wish to deepen their knowledge in intermediate or advanced level. All students will be able to practice and apply listening, speaking and writing skills in comprehension activities and utilize basic vocabulary and grammar points in a variety of tasks and activities appropriate for their level. The courses will take place at the University campus, which is approximately 9 kilometres from the city centre (Gdansk Główny) and 4 kilometres from the seaside, as well as in other interesting locations in Tricity. The courses will be held by academic teachers form University of Gdansk with previous experience in teaching polish as a foreign language. At the end of the courses all students will receive certificates. 
 
The Summer School programme includes:
  • Polish language classes,
  • trips around Tricity, 
  • team building meeting / farewell meeting,
  • cultural and entertaining activities in Gdansk (excursions to museums, art galleries, theatres and historic palaces),
  • lectures on the history and culture of Poland given by academic teachers from the University of Gdansk (in Polish and English),
  • watching Polish films – classic and modern – with lecture (in Polish and English).
 
Date: 31st July  – 18th August 2017.
 
Payment: 1800 zł (€430).

Terms and conditions: 

Students will not be permitted to participate in the Summer School if payment is not made in full by the first day of the course (bank account numbers will be given in contracts). There is a possibility for a beginners’ A level group or / and for a B level group for more advanced students.

 

About the course

The course aims to help you acquire and develop all language skills in Polish: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. You will learn all necessary grammar and vocabulary in order to be able to communicate in Polish on elementary as well as pre-intermediate levels.

The classes aim at developing all essential language skills necessary to communicate in various contexts of everyday life, as well as acquiring certain academic skills in Polish. You will be able to speak, read, listen, and write in Polish on elementary and pre-intermediate levels. You will also be acquainted with various aspects of Polish culture.

During the course all language components are checked regularly. After two weeks of the course all students will write a small test to check their knowledge. After the whole course all students will write A1 level written test. They will receive a certificate of the Foreign Languages Department of the University of Gdańsk.

 

When required, it is also possible for individuals to have language test at a higher level. It is also possible that the level of the course will become higher, depending on students’ progress.

 

Students can check their knowledge using e-learning Polish language for foreigners A1 level course. The e-learning program is available for students at all times. They can check their development outside class at any time they wish. Students can use the language laboratory computers as well as the university computers that are commonly available.

The course is also designed to prepare you for studying at the University of Gdańsk by acquainting you with this University and with the Polish system of tertiary education.
