Funding for the expansion of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics and the Laboratory of TV Recording Simulation and Film Documentation

During the inauguration of the academic year 2016/2017 the Vice-Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Wiesław Byczkowski had some good news for the University of Gdańsk’s academic community. The University of Gdańsk has received funding as part of the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for the years 2014 – 2020 for its two most recent investments: expanding the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics by a new Institute of Informatics building and creating the Laboratory of TV Recording Simulation and Film Documentation. The total funding for both investments amounts to nearly 26 million zł.

Expanding the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics

The project entitled “The expansion of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the University of Gdańsk for the purposes of a practical course of study” is due to commence in the first quarter of 2017 and finish at the end of 2018. The construction of a new fully-equipped building of the Institute of Informatics is being planned as part of the project. The new building will be used mainly by students of Practical Informatics as an answer to the needs of the job market where IT specialists are highly sought after. It will consist of five floors (one underground and four over-ground) with a total area of 4,540 m2 and will be linked to the existing building of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics via a skyway at the level of the second and third floors and an underground technological channel. Additionally, the building will house seminar rooms, auditoriums and teaching and research rooms.

Given the fact that the project is to serve the development of the students’ practical skills, a partner, the company Kainos Software Poland Sp. z o.o, has also been involved in the enterprise.

The capital investment necessary for the completion of the project is over 25 million zł. The University has received funding for the project as part of Regional Operational Programme of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for the years 2014 – 2020 to the value of 85% of the entire investment i.e. 21,388,706.99 zł. A financial contribution from the UG’s and the project partner, Kainos Software Poland Sp. z o.o, is also anticipated.

The UG’s Laboratory of TV Recording Simulation and Film Documentation

The project entitled “The UG’s Laboratory of TV Recording Simulation and Film Documentation – adaptation and fitting-out for the purposes of practical courses of study” is due to commence in the first quarter of 2017 and finish at the beginning of 2018.

As part of the project, rooms located in the building of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Gdańsk will be adapted to house a laboratory of TV recording simulation and film documentation. The laboratory (a TV studio) will be located in the central rotunda area of the existing building. The total area for adaptation is 249,7 m2. The investment will consist of adapting existing rooms for the didactic purposes of the Journalism and Social Communication course offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Film Studies and Audio-visual Culture course offered by the Faculty of Languages. The Laboratory will be equipped with picture and sound recording devices as well as computer processing and editing facilities.

The capital investment necessary for the completion of the project is over 5 million zł. The University has received funding for the project as part of the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for the years 2014 – 2020 to the value of 85% of the entire investment i.e. 4,432,466.47 zł. A financial contribution from the UG’s and the project partner, Kainos Software Poland Sp. z o.o, is also anticipated.
