Dr Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG&MUG winner of the 2nd edition of the First Team Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science
The Foundation for Polish Science has announced winners of the second competition organised as part of the FIRST TEAM Programme. Grants to a total value of nearly 14 mln PLN were awarded to seven young researchers. Among them is Dr med. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk (Exosomes produced by epidermal cells (keratinocytes) in allergy induction and tolerance to environmental allergens, amount awarded: 2,000,000 PLN).
The aim of the FIRST TEAM Programme is to provide assistance to young PhDs (up to five years after the completion of their doctoral theses) in creating their first research teams. The Programme aims to encourage young researchers to remain in the field of science and to assist them in acquiring independence in research. Their R&D work may be awarded up to 2 mln PLN for a period of three years. The grants are financed from the Smart Growth Operational Programme funds.
The second competition received 87 applications, of which the reviewers and experts (mainly international) recommended seven to the total value of nearly 14 mln PLN. Funds obtained from the Foundation for Polish Science will make it possible to create research teams and finance at least 20 workplaces for researchers employed in projects as well as 19 scholarships for students and doctoral students involved in research work. A total of 16 international partners will be invited to conduct joint research.
