New project as part of the Baltic Sea Region Programme ─ COMPLETE “Completing management options in the Baltic Sea Region to reduce risk of invasive species introduction by shipping”
The objective of the COMPLETE project is to devise a coherent system for managing biological contamination (non-indigenous species) introduced by ballast water and ship hulls, appropriately adjusted for the Baltic Sea Region. The project will be of key importance for the region due to the fact that, apart from the complex approach to the issue, it will also engage various target groups ─ shipyards, marinas and sailing organisations, the shipbuilding industry, ministries of transport and the environment, Baltic ports and coastal municipalities, power plants and other large industrial plants which use seawater for cooling. The project will bring together twelve partners from seven countries in the Baltic Sea Region. Amongst them is the University of Gdańsk represented by Dr hab. Monika Normant-Saremba, associate professor from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography.
The project will be implemented between September 2017 and August 2020.
The budget of the Project on the part of the University of Gdańsk is 248,000 EUR.
