Welcome Week for International Students
This is yet another year in which international students choose the University of Gdansk as the place where they want to continue education and deepen their knowledge in selected fields. Over the last week more than 200 newly admitted international students took part in the Orientation Week. Among them, both students who will undertake full degree studies as well as those who came as part of the Erasmus exchange programme from other European universities. They came from various European countries, including Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Germany, Bulgaria, Sweden and the Netherlands. Students who came to undertake full degree studies come from the United States, India, Bangladesh, China, Nepal, Iraq, Jordan, Ethiopia, Malawi, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Belarus. During the Orientation Week international students were getting familiar with the university campus where they participated in information meetings, library training and a lecture on intercultural communication. They also took part in a joint integration meeting and welcome party for international students starting their education in other Tri-City universities. They were greeted by the Rectors of Pomeranian universities and officials from regional and consular authorities. The following days gave the students the opportunity to learn about our region. A trip to the European Solidarity Centre, Malbork Castle and the Stutthof Museum gave the students an outline of the history of Pomerania. Thanks to the beautiful autumn weather it was also an opportunity to look at the beautiful Pomeranian landscapes. We wish all international students unforgettable impressions from their stay in Poland which, we hope, will contribute not only to their academic success but also to their personal development.
