The University of Gdańsk female student chess success

Julia Antolak, a first year student of Scandinavian studies at the University of Gdańsk, won a Silver Medal at the Female U20 Polish Chess Championship. The Individual U20 Polish Chess Championship took place in Ustroń Jaszowiec from 23 to 30 November, 2019.

Julia Antolak , Woman International Master representing Solne club,  scored  6 points in 9 games (4 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss) and won the second place at the Individual U20 Polish Chess Championship. The silver medal allows Julia to represent our country at the next year U20 World Championship in India. Anna Kubicka (SzSON ZAGŁĘBIE Dąbrowa Górnicza), a gold medalist,  is a  year older than Julia and will be 21 next year. Therefore, in accordance with the Polish Championship regulations, it  is Julia who will represent Poland at the U20 World Cup.

Julia will not have much downtime after her successful tournament, since from 5-12 December, 2019 a female chess match -  Poland vs Rest of the World takes place in Wrocław. Worth noting, this is our player’s inaugural selection to the Polish National first team.
