An exchange of visiting professors and students is the main joint activity of the University of Gdańsk and the Belarusian State University in Minsk as part of the recently signed cooperation agreement.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the University of Gdańsk by the Rector Prof. Jerzy Piotr Gwizdała and on behalf of the Belarusian State University in Minsk by its Vice-Rector Prof. Siarhej Pazniak.
Between 12 − 16 June 2017 the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid was the venue for International Staff Week as part of the Erasmus+ Programme. Our university was represented by the Foreign Languages Centre.
Prof. Lech Garlicki, a researcher of international renown and one of the most acclaimed professors of constitutional law, has been awarded a University of Gdańsk honorary doctorate for his doctrinal and judicial contribution into the shaping of the state of justice, particularly the protection of human rights and democratic institutions in Poland and Europe. The ceremony was held on 22 June 2017 in the auditorium of the UG Library.
Between 20 ─ 27 May 2017 members of the UG’s Jantar Song and Dance Ensemble represented Poland at the 2nd International Congress of Folklore "Dança e Tradição" in Passo Fundo, Brazil. The Congress, which takes place every two years, is organised by the Brazilian Federation for Folk Arts and FIDAF America. This year, the UG’s Jantar Song and Dance Ensemble was the only European representative, the other countries being Peru, Chile, Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina. For this reason, Polish folklore proved very exotic and drew the attention of the audience.
Between 31 May ─ 3 June 2017 a University of Gdańsk delegation took part in a series of official meetings with representatives of Chinese universities and other institutions which foster Polish-Chinese academic exchange, and with which the University of Gdańsk has already cooperated or with which it is planning to initiate cooperation.
On 17 May 2017 the Rector of the China Youth University of Political Studies (CYU) in Beijing, Mr Lin Wei, accompanied by a delegation, paid a visit to the University of Gdańsk.
The visit began with a meeting at the Confucius Institute, which is run by the University of Gdańsk in conjunction with the CYU. Rector Lin Wei and Vice Rector for Research Prof. Stepnowski formally opened a new unit at the Confucius Institute, the Centre for Studies and Culture, which will deal with translation and the promotion of the culture and language of China as well as Poland.
The University of Gdańsk’s Institute of Oceanography has acquired a new building for the Professor Krzysztof Skóra Hel Marine Station in the ‘Błękitna Wioska/Blue Village’ to serve didactic, research and educational functions. The new building draws on the architecture of the region and as such blends into the seaside landscape. The building houses a seminar and educational hall for 100 people and a didactic and laboratory room.
At the invitation of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, Dr hab. Jerzy P. Gwizdała, associate professor, the Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin met at the University of Gdańsk with rectors of Pomeranian higher education institutions affiliated with the Rectors’ Council of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. At the University of Gdańsk the Deputy Prime Minister also met Tri-City journalists.
Rector of Kaliningrad State Technical University Prof. Vladimir A. Volkogon, the UG’s Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation Prof. Piotr Stepnowski and the Dean of the Faculty of Management Prof. Mirosław Szreder have signed a cooperation agreement.
