Admission rules 2026-2027

Detailed rules of admission to the Doctoral School at the Faculty of Managemen

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Admission is based on a competitive selection process conducted on the basis of the submitted documents and an interview held in Polish.

ADMISSION CRITERIA:

The maximum number of points that may be obtained in the admission process is 100 points.

 

I. SUBSTANTIVE EVALUATION OF THE CANDIDATE’S DOCUMENTATION

1. Points for the final result of studies, as stated on the diploma of completion of studies (max. 15 points*):
a) very good – 13 points;
b) good plus – 8 points;
c) good – 3 points.

An additional 2 points shall be awarded for completion of a second-cycle programme or a long-cycle Master’s degree programme in a field of study assigned to the academic discipline in which the candidate is applying for admission to the doctoral school.

2. Academic achievements (max. 25 points):

a) a peer-reviewed academic monograph published by a publisher included in the official list of publishers of peer-reviewed academic monographs***:
– a monograph published by a publisher in the highest category – 20 points for each achievement (in the case of co-authorship, 20/L points are awarded, where “L” is the number of co-authors);
– a monograph published by a publisher in a category other than the highest – 12 points for each achievement (in the case of co-authorship, 12/L points are awarded, where “L” is the number of co-authors);

b) a peer-reviewed academic article published in a journal included in the official list of academic journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings***:
– for an academic article published in a journal assigned an Impact Factor – 10 points for each achievement (plus an additional 3 points for each instance of first authorship or corresponding authorship);
– for an academic article without an Impact Factor, published in a journal assigned 70 points or more – 5 points for each achievement (plus an additional 3 points for each instance of first authorship or corresponding authorship);
– for an academic article without an Impact Factor, published in a journal assigned fewer than 70 points – 3 points for each achievement;

c) a peer-reviewed academic article published in conference proceedings included in the official list of academic journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings***:
– for an academic article published in conference proceedings assigned 140 points or more – 5 points for each article (plus an additional 3 points in the case of an article presenting a completed and validated research undertaking, i.e. a full paper within the meaning of generally accepted rules for publishing conference proceedings; no additional points are awarded for publications in workshops or other events accompanying the conference);
– for an academic article published in conference proceedings assigned 70 or 100 points – 3 points for each achievement (plus an additional 3 points in the case of an article presenting a completed and validated research undertaking, i.e. a full paper within the meaning of generally accepted rules for publishing conference proceedings; no additional points are awarded for publications in workshops or other events accompanying the conference);
– for an academic article published in conference proceedings assigned fewer than 70 points – 3 points for each achievement;

d) a chapter in a peer-reviewed academic monograph published by a publisher included in the official list of publishers of peer-reviewed academic monographs***:
– a chapter published by a publisher in the highest category – 5 points for each achievement;
– a chapter published by a publisher in a category other than the highest – 2 points for each achievement (max. 6 points);

e) acting as principal investigator or project leader in a research project (NCBiR, NCN, FNP, or MNiSW) – 6 points for each project led;

f) participation in a research project on the basis of a contract – 2 points for each project (max. 6 points);

g) formal international mobility (research internships, Erasmus+, NAWA) lasting at least 1 week – 2 points for each achievement (max. 4 points).

3. Points for certified proficiency in English (max. 10 points):
a) CPE, CAE, FCE, or an equivalent certificate – 5 points;
b) completion of first-cycle or second-cycle studies conducted in English – 5 points.

* If the final result of studies stated on the diploma is expressed on a scale different from that used at the University of Gdańsk, it shall be converted according to the grading scale in force at the University, in accordance with the conversion rules adopted in the regulations governing admission to studies at the University, which shall apply accordingly.

** Classifications and numerical coefficients are adopted in accordance with the lists and the Web of Science database data valid on the date registration in the IRK system opens. In the case of publications (points I.2.a–d), only achievements published within the last 4 calendar years, including the year in which the admission process is conducted, as of the deadline for submission of the required admission documents, shall be taken into account.

*** The official list published in accordance with the communication of the minister responsible for higher education and science, as valid on the date registration in the IRK system opens.

 

II. ADMISSION INTERVIEW

Only a candidate who has uploaded to the IRK system the complete set of documents required for admission and whose documents have been positively verified may be admitted to the interview stage.

  1. The admission interview, conducted in Polish (max. 50 points), consists of:
    a) the candidate’s presentation of the research issue (6 minutes);
    b) the candidate’s answers to questions asked by the committee (10 minutes).

  2. During the interview, the following are assessed:
    a) ability to conceptualize and the innovative nature of the proposed research issue – max. 15 points;
    b) knowledge of research methods and the relevant literature, as well as correct use of specialist terminology – max. 15 points;
    c) ability to present arguments and the structure of the candidate’s statement – max. 5 points;
    d) feasibility of the project proposed by the candidate – max. 15 points.

The minimum total number of points required for admission to the doctoral school within the admission limit is 50 points (including a minimum of 30 points from the admission interview).
