Detailed rules of admission to the Doctoral School at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics
ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
Admission is based on a competitive selection process conducted on the basis of the submitted documents and an interview.
ADMISSION CRITERIA:
The maximum number of points that may be obtained in the admission process is 100 points.
I. SUBSTANTIVE EVALUATION OF THE CANDIDATE’S DOCUMENTATION
1. Points for the final result of studies, as stated on the diploma of completion of studies (max. 20 points*):
a) very good – 20 points;
b) good plus – 15 points;
c) good – 10 points
2. Academic achievements (max. 25 points)** – a peer-reviewed academic article in a journal included in the official list of academic journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings***:
a) for an academic article published in a journal assigned 140 or 200 points: 13 points for a single-author article and 8 points for a co-authored article;
b) for an academic article published in a journal assigned 70 or 100 points: 8 points for a single-author article and 5 points for a co-authored article;
c) for an academic article published in a journal assigned fewer than 70 points: 3 points for a single-author article and 2 points for a co-authored article.
3. Other achievements (max. 5 points): an academic award, membership in an academic association or student research club, delivery of a paper at an academic conference, participation in the organization of an academic conference, or a popular science publication – 1 point for each achievement.
* If the final result of studies stated on the diploma is expressed on a scale different from that used at the University of Gdańsk, it shall be converted according to the grading scale in force at the University, in accordance with the conversion rules adopted in the regulations governing admission to studies at the University, which shall apply accordingly.
** In the case of publications (point I.2), only achievements published within the last 5 calendar years as of the deadline for submission of the required admission documents shall be taken into account.
*** The official list published in accordance with the communication of the minister responsible for higher education and science, as valid on the date registration in the IRK system opens.
II. ADMISSION INTERVIEW
Only a candidate who has uploaded to the IRK system the complete set of documents required for admission and whose documents have been positively verified may be admitted to the interview stage.

The admission interview (max. 50 points) consists of:
a) the candidate’s presentation of the research issue (6 minutes);
b) the candidate’s answers to questions asked by the committee (20 minutes). -
During the interview, the following are assessed:
a) ability to conceptualize and the innovative nature of the proposed research issue – max. 20 points;
b) knowledge of research methods, the relevant literature, and substantive knowledge within the selected academic discipline, appropriate to the candidate’s planned research topic – max. 20 points;
c) ability to present arguments and the structure of the candidate’s statement – max. 10 points.
The minimum total number of points required for admission to the doctoral school within the admission limit is 50 points (including a minimum of 30 points from the admission interview).
