Admission rules 2026-2027

Detailed rules of admission to the Doctoral School at the Faculty of Chemistry

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
Admission is based on a competitive selection process conducted on the basis of the submitted documents and an interview.

ADMISSION CRITERIA:
The maximum number of points that may be obtained in the admission process is 130 points.

 

I. SUBSTANTIVE EVALUATION OF THE CANDIDATE’S DOCUMENTATION

1. Points for the final result of studies, as stated on the diploma of completion of studies (max. 15 points*):
a) very good – 13 points;
b) good plus – 8 points;
c) good – 3 points.

An additional 2 points shall be awarded for completion of a second-cycle programme or a long-cycle Master’s degree programme in a field of study assigned to the academic discipline in which the candidate is applying for admission to the doctoral school.

2. Academic achievements (max. 30 points):

a) a peer-reviewed academic publication in a journal included in the official list of academic journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings*** (rated at 200 or 140 points), a patent application, or an academic monograph classified as Level II (200 points) in the official list of publishers of peer-reviewed academic monographs*** – 6 points for each achievement (plus an additional 3 points for each instance of first authorship or corresponding authorship);

b) a peer-reviewed academic publication in a journal included in the official list of academic journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings*** (rated at 100 or 70 points), a chapter in the academic monograph referred to in point 2.a, or an academic monograph classified as Level I (80 points) in the official list of publishers of peer-reviewed academic monographs*** – 2 points for each achievement (plus an additional 2 points for each instance of first authorship or corresponding authorship);

c) a peer-reviewed academic publication or academic monograph other than those specified in points 2.a and 2.b, a chapter in the academic monograph referred to in point 2.b, or a peer-reviewed academic publication in a journal not included in the official list of academic journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings*** – 1 point for each achievement (max. 3 points);

d) delivery of an oral presentation at an academic conference, confirmed by a certificate – 2 points for each presentation (max. 6 points);

e) presentation of a poster at an academic conference, confirmed by a certificate – 1 point for each poster (max. 3 points);

f) acting as principal investigator or project leader in a research project (NCBiR, NCN, FNP, or MNiSW), documented by a copy of the decision awarding project funding – 8 points for each project led;

g) an international research internship lasting at least 4 weeks – 4 points for each internship (max. 12 points);

h) an international research internship lasting at least 1 week – 1 point for each internship (max. 3 points).

3. Other achievements (max. 5 points): an academic award, membership in a student research club, participation in the organization of an academic conference, certified proficiency in a foreign language at C1 level or higher, or other academic activities (participation in a summer school, intensive educational courses such as BIP, training courses) – 1 point for each achievement.

4. A candidate who documents that their doctoral scholarship will be paid from a research project financed from external sources shall receive an additional 30 points.

* If the final result of studies stated on the diploma is expressed on a scale different from that used at the University of Gdańsk, it shall be converted according to the grading scale in force at the University, in accordance with the conversion rules adopted in the regulations governing admission to studies at the University, which shall apply accordingly.

** In the case of publications (points I.2.a–c), only achievements published within the last 5 calendar years, including the year in which the admission process is conducted, as of the deadline for submission of the required admission documents, shall be taken into account.

*** The official list published in accordance with the communication of the minister responsible for higher education and science, as valid on the date registration in the IRK system opens.

 

II. ADMISSION INTERVIEW

Only a candidate who has uploaded to the IRK system the complete set of documents required for admission and whose documents have been positively verified may be admitted to the interview stage.

  1. Subject to point 3, the admission interview (max. 50 points) consists of:
    a) the candidate’s presentation of the research issue (5 minutes);
    b) the candidate’s answers to questions asked by the committee (10 minutes).

  2. During the interview, the following are assessed:
    a) ability to present the concept and innovative nature of the research issue – max. 25 points;
    b) knowledge of research methods and the relevant literature, as well as correct use of specialist terminology – max. 15 points;
    c) ability to present arguments and the structure of the candidate’s statement – max. 10 points.

  3. A candidate who documents that their doctoral scholarship will be paid from a research project financed from external sources shall receive 50 points for the admission interview.

The minimum total number of points required for admission to the doctoral school within the admission limit is 50 points (including a minimum of 25 points from the admission interview).
